LET THE CHILDREN PLAY
WHO WE ARE
At "Let the Children Play," we are a collective of dreamers, educators, and change makers. Founded by Kamau Preston, a Jamaican-born DJ now based in the US, our initiative is rooted deeply in the vibrant culture and resilient spirit of Jamaica. We believe in the transformative power of music and education and are dedicated to empowering the youth of underserved communities in the northern parishes of Hanover, Montego Bay, Westmorland, and beyond.
We are storytellers, using the universal language of music to share narratives of hope, resilience, and empowerment. Our mission transcends beyond teaching music; it's about unlocking potential, nurturing talent, and creating pathways for success and self-expression. The unique aspect of our program is its mobility – a retrofitted container equipped with all the necessary facilities, allowing us to bring this enriching experience directly to the youth across various parishes.
Together, we are committed to sparking a wave of positive change, helping to lower poverty, unemployment, and crime rates, and ultimately contributing to the strengthening of family units and nation-building.
THE VISION
Teaching Children to Fish in Unexplored Parts of the Sea….
At 'Let the Children Play', we believe in empowering the youth of underserved communities by introducing them to the vast, untapped potential of the creative arts. Our mission goes beyond skill development – it’s about instilling hope, expanding horizons, and nurturing dreams.
THE CHALLENGE
In communities where opportunity is a rare jewel, every chance to shine is precious.
In the northern parishes of Jamaica, many children grow up in environments where opportunities for creative and economic growth are limited. This lack of opportunity often leads to a cycle of poverty, unemployment, and crime, which affects not only individuals but entire communities.
OUR IMPACT
‘Let the Children Play’ is an innovative initiative that travels across parishes, bringing a mobile DJ and radio training experience directly to the youth. Designed for individuals aged 7 to 17 (suggested age range), our program is about more than just music; it's a gateway to developing diverse skills, encouraging creativity, and opening doors to new career paths. Our program has the power to transform lives. By equipping the youth with new skills and confidence, we contribute to reducing poverty, lowering unemployment rates, and curbing crime in these communities. We're teaching music while strengthening family units and encouraging nation-building. This in turn will help to build brand Jamaica and foster national pride across the diaspora. As ambassadors for brand Jamaica, we will showcase the positive effects of giving back on our culture and sustainability.
